More Details >Say goodbye to 2010
A relatively comprehensive list of public party spots on New Year’s Eve.
You know what we’ll miss the most about New Year’s Eve parties in the 2000s? Those cool glasses you could wear to ring in the new year. The whole decade included years of zeros that worked perfectly as eyeglass frames, and now that’s all over. There’s no more zeros in our future until at least 2020, and that’s a shame.
However, what is in our future is a wide range of places to leave all of those zeros behind. What follows is by no means comprehensive, it’s just a list of all the places we could find, and we hope it helps you find the perfect place for you to dress up and dance or kick back and drink on this New Year’s Eve.
Michelangelo’s in Conway, 9 p.m.
Price: None mentioned
A party on three levels at Michelangelo’s will include music, champagne, food and more. Sponsored by Street Jam Events and Conway Boyz Productions and hosted by Ty Burnz and Cain the Ladies' Man, the first level will appeal to the “grown and sexy” crowd. On level two, you can “get crunk” with high energy music and at midnight the ball will drop on level 3 (aka the rooftop).
On the 1’s and 2’s will be DJ Smooth and Kool and DJ D. Sewell. To RSVP, call (501) 246-3708.
Flying Saucer, 7 p.m.
Price: $10 for U.F.O. members;
$15 for others
This party will include live music from NeverTrain, a local band fronted, as far as we can tell, by Matt Joyce formerly of The Gettys. The Saucer will also have an iPad giveaway contest and a midnight champagne toast. Reservations can be made for $50 a table, but those patrons must arrive by 9 p.m.
Flying Saucer is billing this event as “one of the most affordable in town,” and they wouldn’t be wrong there.
Parrot Beach Cafe, 7 p.m.
Price: $5
A low-key party for sure, Parrot Beach Cafe at 9611 MacArthur Drive in North Little Rock will host a New Year’s Eve party with live music by Conway rockabilly and blues band Eagle Claw & The Side Effects.
Fox and Hound, 10 p.m.
Price: $15 per person; $25 per couple
An ’80s-themed party with The Gettys could be a fun way to celebrate 2011. If you’re dressed up like you just dropped in from the ’80s, you can get in the door for free. So tease up your bangs, dig out that slap bracelet and your old acid-wash jeans.
They’ll have a champagne toast at midnight, breakfast (after midnight) and prizes. DJ Blake Woodson from Big Rock 93.3 will be broadcasting live from the event.
The Peabody Hotel, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Price: $45 advance; $55 at the door
The hotel’s annual New Year’s Eve party just keeps getting bigger and more elaborate every year. With live music from CRISIS, Tragikly White and Rodney Block, dueling DJs Tre Day and G-Force, a light show, a balloon drop and, of course, champagne, this party is trying its hardest to appeal to everyone over the age of 21.
As an added bonus, though it’s significantly more than a cab ride, you can purchase the Take the Elevator Home package which includes a room and two tickets to the party for $325.
Little Rock Zoo, 8 p.m.to 12:30 a.m.
Price: $75 advance; $100 at the door
The zoo goes “old Hollywood” for a dressed-up night at Cafe Africa called New Year’s on the Nile. They’re planning to turn the zoo restaurant into Grauman’s Hollywood Theater (aka Mann’s Chinese Theatre) and have booked Shannon Boshears Band to sing cover tunes. To ring in the New Year Hollywood style, they’re rolling out a red carpet and will serve up a dinner buffet, unlimited beverages and specialty drinks.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Arkansas Zoological Foundation.
The Empress of Little Rock, 8 p.m.
Price: $250 per couple
The bed and breakfast’s annual wine and dinner dance called “An Affair to Remember” hopes to help you party like it’s 1889. The event starts at 8 p.m. with a four-course meal and wine pairings to complement each course. The obligatory midnight champagne toast and singing of Auld Lang Syne are also on the docket. In between will be music and dancing. To make reservations, call (501) 374-7966.
