Tales from the South: Annual Ozark Music Show with music by blues guitarist, Mark Simpson and Big Silver. Tales from the South is filmed in front of a live audience at Starving Artist Cafe, 411 Main St., North Little Rock. The show will then air on KUAR at a later date. Country, Little Rock style

The new album from Little Rock country rock outfit the Good Time Ramblers is eight tracks long. That’s a damn shame. Because the abum, filled with stories of teens stealing dad’s whiskey, dying mom-and-pop stores and girls breaking hearts, is so good from start to finish that one wishes it went on a little longer. But sometimes you take what you get, and so it is with Bigelow Strange, the Good Time Ramblers’ follow-up to their May 2009 release Nashville Cowboy. Describing the Good Time Ramblers’ sound as country rock doesn’t do it justice. There’s more to the band’s sound. The blues, folk and rock ’n’ roll all find their way into the Ramblers’ music. Call it Americana country — rambunctious when needed and high-lonesome at other times.

Calling all film fans

Head South — that's where the Little Rock Film Festival is taking cinephiles for the seventh year of the festival this Wednesday through Sunday. Why South? Because while the the film festival is a global affair — with shorts, features and documentaries based in locales from Nepal to Peru to Russia — there’s definitely a nod to the South with the five-day festival of screenings in Little Rock and North Little Rock.
