The True Arkansas Treasures Project is an ongoing living history initiative spearheaded by Agnolia B. Gay, local educator and artist. On Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, 501 W. 9th Street in Little Rock, she proudly presents “True Arkansas Treasures: and Their Stories,” a series of moving interviews and candid stories straight from the mouths of native Arkansawyers who have shared their jewels on camera. Ms. Gay has spent the past year interviewing senior citizens from Central Arkansas as a way to collect the stories, songs and the wisdom of a generation in danger of being forgotten. “I want to show our seniors as what they are--a powerful resource that needs to be celebrated. They should be involved and engaged as long as they are with us,” she states. Funded in part by the Arkansas Humanities Council, ACTS III, and AIETAA, the True Arkansas Treasures Project is a way to bring the young and old together to build a brighter future in Arkansas. You can come and sit at the feet of the masters from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on January 28, and learn from the more than a century’s worth of accumulated wisdom of Arkansas community elders.
